Council on the Ageing WA
Grant round: 2010
Grant amount: $20,000
In the context of the 2009 Western Australian Women’s Report Card report (in which surveyed females aged 65 and over had relatively low rates of usage of the Internet and of computers at home), the project investigated the knowledge gap between users and non-users specifically related to information and service provision, and barriers preventing use of these resources. The project involved a questionnaire of female seniors from various backgrounds. Results were analysed to produce recommendations on reducing the information gap.
The final report is a rich account of the challenges that female seniors feel they face in going online. Though most of the women who are not already using the internet are reluctant to go online, many of them worry that they may be disadvantaged in future.
