In response to emerging concerns around issues such as illegal downloading, ACCAN believes consumers’ interests must be represented in relation to copyright policy. As the peak consumer body representing communications consumers, we think it is important that we clarify our position on these issues and explain how we arrived at it.
After being invited to participate in government-sponsored talks on schemes to tackle illegal downloading, ACCAN conducted a members’ consultation to arrive at some key principles to guide our work in this area. The result is the ACCAN Position Statement on Copyright and Consumers.
Accompanying this position statement, we are also publishing a set of case studies that illustrate some of the dilemmas consumers face in the present market.
