The code outlines procedures to reduce the number of scam calls and short messages (SMs) delivered to Australian telecommunications consumers. Scam calls and short messages are annoying at best and harmful at worst and ACCAN approves of measures that limit their spread [ACCAN].

Are you a small business owner with website-building experience? You are invited to take part in ACCAN’s Small Business’ Experience of Cybersecurity survey, which investigates cybersecurity practices of small businesses. This survey will help us to determine preferred methods of content delivery for an upcoming consumer education initiative targeting Australian small businesses. 5G is coming to more places in Australia, and folks in the country’s Deep South can now jump on, provided they have one of a handful of phones. “We’ve been working incredibly hard to be able to bring 5G to Tasmania and today’s announcement is the first step towards achieving this,” said Lambo Kanagaratnam, Vice President of Networks at Optus [Pickr].

NBN fixed wireless download speeds have improved significantly over the past year, the ACCC’s latest Measuring Broadband Australia quarterly report shows. Speeds in December 2021 were 93.4 per cent of plan speed during all hours and 79.8 per cent of plan speed during the busy hours of 7-11pm [ACCC].

Digital rights groups have blasted Facebook’s latest commitment to clean up the federal election as a “bandaid” measure framed in a way to avoid more scrutiny of the company’s fundamental misinformation issues. Facebook parent company Meta on Tuesday announced plans to increase third-party fact checkers and public awareness as part of its most “comprehensive” Australian election protections [Innovation Aus].
