ACCAN has released its 2013 Grants Scheme Guidelines ahead of the 2013 round of the ACCAN Grants Scheme, which opens Monday 18th February.

The ACCAN Grants Scheme funds a wide variety of projects. Previous ACCAN grants recipients have produced research reports which have formed a strong evidence base for communications consumer advocacy activities. Other recipients have undertaken policy work, and developed educational materials designed to empower consumers and communities.

The Guidelines outline the three types of projects eligible for funding and explain how monies may be used.

One of last year's projects saw the development of a community-based program linking teenage volunteers with seniors to teach them how to use a gadget of their choice, ranging from tablet devices to mobile phones. A separate research project documented household internet use in an NBN first-release site. This team was recently awarded a Discovery Grant from the Australian Research Council (ARC) to extend this work further.

The 2013 Round of the ACCAN Grants Scheme will be open for six weeks from the 18th February and closing on the 2nd April. Applicants are encouraged to apply for funding amounts appropriate to their project to a maximum of $60,000.

The ACCAN Grants Scheme carries an annual budget of $265,000 and accepts applications during one round per year.
