ACCAN has responded to the Productivity Commission’s interim report 5-year productivity Inquiry: Australia’s data and digital dividend. The report explores common barriers to technology and digital adoption and acknowledges the benefits to productivity of increasing digitisation.

ACCAN supports greater investment in the development of digital, data and cyber security skills as well as cyber-security systems and processes. The scope of current Government programs needs to be expanded and opportunities examined to target investments in consultation with the community sector organisations and communities. ACCAN recommended that the Productivity Commission consider opportunities to strengthen investment arrangements to deliver value for money for regional communities. This should include careful consideration of how investment decisions can:

  • be delivered transparently and efficiently;
  • provide reliable, affordable services;
  • improve retail competition; and
  • meet community needs.

We recommend that the Productivity Commission consider the recommendations from the Australian Human Rights Commission report, Human Rights and Technology, to help secure an innovative and safe digital future for Australia.
