ACCAN has recently outlined our views on priorities that need to be addressed in the Federal Government’s upcoming 2022-2023 Budget. Our Pre-Budget Submission for 2022-2023 identifies a need for Federal investment in issues relating to the affordability, availability, reliability, and accessibility of communications goods and services.

Some of the priority areas that ACCAN believes would benefit from Federal Government investment include:

  • an affordable broadband concession to support low income Australians to access services on the NBN;
  • an affordable voice service concession to support Age Pension and Disability Support Pension recipients to access home phone services on the NBN;
  • initiatives aimed at improving broadband reliability;
  • further and expanded rounds of the Mobile Black Spot Program and Regional Connectivity Program;
  • ongoing funding for the Regional Tech Hub;
  • the development and maintenance of an online plan comparison tool for telecommunications services to support greater consumer choice;
  • funding for the development and implementation of the Indigenous Digital Inclusion Plan, and initiatives within that Plan;
  • sustainable funding for the Accessible Telecoms service; and
  • digital capacity building programs to support the engagement of people with disability in the broader digital economy.
