Disability Policy Officer
(2 Year contract, Full-time)

You will undertake policy work to ensure consumer communications issues are advanced. Your knowledge of communications in particular accessibility issues as well as excellent analytical and stakeholder liaison skills will be the key to your success in this role. Your capacity for strategic issues management will ensure that ACCAN is dynamic and responsive to emerging issues. You are committed to disability rights and have a passion for social justice and fair markets. A background in service provision for people with disabilities would be highly desirable.

You should have relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in a communications policy role.

Essential Skills for position

  • A sound grasp of disability policy issues in the communications industry or the capacity to quickly acquire this knowledge
  • A commitment to the effective representation of consumers with disabilities
  • Demonstrated understanding of the needs of people with disabilities
  • Knowledge of public policy and industry self-regulation processes
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills
  • Good analytical and research skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and lead projects
  • Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Proficiency in information and communications technology

 

Desired Skills for position

  • Academic background in public policy
  • Ability to create plain language and easy English documents
  • An understanding of Australian Consumer Law and consumer rights
  • Knowledge of and experience of working in the community sector
  • Ability to produce accessible documents

Project Officer
(2 Year contract, Full-time)

 The Australian Communications Consumer Action network (ACCAN) has an exciting new role for a project officer to work with our project team implementing a nationwide disability telecommunications information and referral service. The service will provide up-to-date, independent and appropriate information and referrals for both mainstream and assistive communications products and services suitable for people with disability. We are looking for an experienced project officer to work across a range of activities as an integral member of the project team.

You should have relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in a project officer role.

  • Previous experience in project delivery as a project officer

  • Good analytical and research skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and lead projects
  • Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision

Marketing and Publications Assistant
(2 year contract, Full-time)

You will execute marketing strategies to build community engagement with, and raise awareness of, ACCAN’s consumer education initiatives, accessible telecommunications project, membership benefits, events and activities. Your background in marketing, membership recruitment and production of publications and promotional collateral will contribute to getting better outcomes for consumers in the area of mobile, broadband and other communications services.

Qualifications

Relevant Certificate 4 or tertiary qualifications in a marketing publications, public relations or communications role or with at least two years’ experience in a relevant role.

Essential Skills and Experience for position

  • Experience driving marketing strategies
  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to write a wide range of content for various platforms and audiences
  • Ability to desktop publish using adobe software and work with graphic designers
  • Experience using of content management systems
  • Demonstrated capacity to work autonomously and to meet tight deadlines
  • High level of digital and computer literacy

 

Desired Skills and Experience for position

  • Familiarity with running social media campaigns and moderation techniques
  • Understanding of accessibility requirements including applying WCAG and Easy English
  • Understanding of working for a member based organisation
  • Experience working in the not-for-profit sector
  • Familiarity with the needs of people with disabilities
