The Department of Social Services recently sought input to the National Disability Employment Strategy. This Strategy will have close ties to the forthcoming National Disability Strategy.

ACCAN made a submission to this consultation to outline the role of communications technologies in supporting greater inclusion and participation of people with disability in the workforce.

In our submission, ACCAN explained that a consistent, whole-of-government commitment to the procurement of accessible Information and Communications Technology (ICT) would bring significant benefits to people with disability, the economy, and society in general. These benefits would include greater educational and employment opportunities for people with disability and the increased availability (and affordability) of accessible ICT in the Australian marketplace. We also recommended the development of free, tailored digital inclusion training programs for people with disability to help reduce the digital divide this group currently experiences in Australia.
