ACCAN recently launched its Disability Action Plan which aims to make ACCAN a role model of best practice in accessibility. Some highlights of the Disability Action Plan are:

  • Improved accessibility to ACCAN premises and events
  • An updated website which conforms to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines Level AA
  • Documents in accessible formats, such as Easy English, Auslan and audio.

The Plan aims to eliminate any discrimination based on disability, including against ACCAN’s members or employees, and improve access, inclusion and participation for people with disability.

Prior to the launch of this Disability Action Plan, ACCAN already demonstrated best practice in a number of ways, including:

  • Auslan/English interpreters at ACCAN conferences and other events
  • Premises which are accessible to people with physical and/or vision impairments
  • Braille on all ACCAN business cards
  • Audio loop for people with hearing impairment at ACCAN conferences and other events.

ACCAN’s Disability Action Plan is registered with the Human Rights Commission’s Register of Disability Discrimination Act Action Plans
