Footscray Community Legal Centre

Grant round: 2011

Grant Amount: $22,745

This project equipped refugees and newly arrived migrants with an introduction to telecommunications in Australia. Participants took part in community education workshops that explained the basics of telecommunications in Australia. The purpose of the workshops was to ensure participants are better equipped to deal with a wide range of telecommunications issues, including basic understanding of contracts, advertising, confusing terms, etc, so they are able to share that knowledge with others in their communities. Consumer advocacy activities that took place within the workshops raised awareness of the experiences of other consumers and identified common problems.
