Consumers, government, regulators and industry are all stakeholders in a radically shifting communications environment. Together we are responsible for shaping a competitive, efficient and fair communications market that deliver all the potential benefits of affordable, available and accessible communications services to end users.

The 2010 ACCAN National Conference and Consumer Summit asks participants to think about the opportunities and challenges that we face in the provision of essential communications services in a digital age. We’ll explore opportunities to make the market work better for consumers, with a strong emphasis on actively ensuring no-one is left behind.

The Conference will be a lively, dynamic dialogue between Industry, Government and Consumers aimed at approaching afresh the way we deal with:

  • Essential service provision in a digital society
  • Complaints handling for our times
  • Potholes in the transition in the digital society

We have an exciting program of speakers confirmed for the Conference including key Ministers, Regulators and Industry and Consumer Representatives. Please see the Program for full details

The Conference Dinner will be a vibrant, interactive event in the State Library of Victoria’s Experimedia venue. Participants will have an opportunity to engage with ideas and each other whilst enjoying a three course meal.

The Consumer Summit will bring together all stakeholders to look in depth at these key policy areas:

  • Broadband + Consumers
  • Re-imagining Telco Regulation
  • Inclusive Communications and the National Disability Strategy

Consumers Only Sessions will follow in the afternoon to workshop these ideas.

Desired Outcomes

For Consumers: Engage and forge stronger links with industry, government and other consumer advocates. Participate in action-oriented discussions, networking opportunities, and a special consumer-only session on day 2.

For Government: Opportunity for government agencies to get a better understanding of what consumers protections need to apply to essential services, and what obstacles could prevent a smooth transition to the digital age – particularly digital divide and complaint handling issues.

For Industry: Meet with a wide range of consumer advocates and communications sector stakeholders. Work on developing innovative solutions to endemic problem areas. Meet with a wide range of consumer advocates, regulators and government representatives.

We look forward to seeing you at the first annual ACCAN National Conference and Consumer Summit. Please Register before the 31st May to receive the early bird rate. Spaces will fill fast.
