A lively two-day event being held in Alice Springs this Thursday and Friday (26th-27th July) will focus on the unique communications needs of people living and working in remote Australia and how best to deliver them. The event will include representatives from Federal, state and territory governments, NBN Co, members of the Regional Telecommunications Independent Review Committee, community organisations, researchers and technical specialists.

The event is being hosted by six organisations with a common interest in remote communications, including ACCAN, Desert Knowledge Australia, Indigenous Remote Communications Association, Centre for Appropriate Technology, Centre for Remote Health and Ninti One. ACCAN's Media & Communications Manager, Elise Davidson, will be facilitating the Forum.

The Forum will look at ways to bridge the growing digital divide between people and businesses in metropolitan and regional areas and those living and working in remote parts of Australia.

Speakers at the forum include:

  • Rosemary Sinclair, Chairperson, Regional Telecommunications Independent Review Committee
  • Trent Williams, General Manager for External Affairs, NBN Co
  • Lachlann Patterson, Assistant Secretary, Regional and Indigenous Communications, Department of Broadband, Communications & the Digital Economy
