Each telco has their own assistance packages available for customers during the COVID-19 pandemic. These can include financial assistance, free phone calls, and free additional data.

Telstra

Financial Assistance

  • Telstra is not charging late payment fees or suspending services for bills that become overdue between Thursday 19 March and Thursday 30 April 2020.
  • Late payment fees may apply for bills that become overdue before 19 March 2020, or after 30 April 2020.

Additional Data

  • POSTPAID:  All personal and small business mobile and mobile broadband customers can register for an extra 25GB of data to use in Australia within 30 days.

Register by 31 March 2020 via the Telstra 24x7 and My Telstra.

  • PREPAID:  Pre-paid mobile and mobile broadband customers with an active recharge of $40 or more can register for an additional 10GB of data to use in Australia within 28-30 days (depending on your plan).

  • HOME BROADBAND:  Until 30 April 2020, Telstra is automatically providing unlimited data for personal and small business customers with home broadband plans (ADSL, nbn and cable).

  • HOME PHONE: Pensioners with a Telstra home phone service will be able to make unlimited local, national and 13/1300 calls, and calls to Australian mobiles, from their home phone in Australia from Thursday, until 30 April 2020.

Optus

Financial Assistance

  • Optus customers (including small businesses) can put their plan on hold for free.
  • Late payment fees waived until 30 April.
  • Disconnection and credit collection activites stopped until 30 April.

Additional Data

  • POSTPAID: Optus is providing postpaid mobile customers with 20GB bonus data, to use within 30 days of activation. This can be activated through the My Optus app or My Account anytime during the month of April.

  • PREPAID:10GB of additional data when customers recharge $40 or more, or purchase $40 or more value SIM during April 2020.

  • HOME BROADBAND: Making all fixed broadband plans unlimited until 30 April 2020.

Vodafone

Financial Assistance

  • Late payment fees waived until 30 April.
  • No suspension of services until 30 April.

Additional Data

  • POSTPAID: Vodafone postpaid customers who aren’t on a plan with endless data will get an automatic additional 5GB data. Data will be activated by Friday 27 March, and can be used over the next month.

Also receive unlimited standard national calls

  • PREPAID: Active prepaid customers will receive a one-off bonus 3GB data with their next recharge before 30th April 2020.

Also receive unlimited standard national calls

  • Unlimited standard national calls are being extended to all Vodafone postpaid customers and active prepaid customers by Friday 27 March until the end of April.

  • Unmetered access to Federal Government Department of Health and state and territory health department websites.  This includes:

Financial Assistance

  • Temporarily stopping all service suspensions due to late payments.

Additional Data

  • Providing unmetered data usage between 6am-6pm for all customers on limited data NBN and ADSL plans.
  • Enabling any of its 12/1 speed plan customers to change onto a 25/5 plan at no extra cost.

Southern Phone

Financial Assistance

Additional data

  • Unlimited data for all NBN (excludes NBN Satellite) and ADSL Broadband customers from the 23rd of March until the 30th of June 2020.
  • Unlimited data will be added automatically, so there’s no need to activate or register for this offer.
